From a Plant to Your Cup

Blending love and teas

Our history
I owned a small gluten-free bakery and teahouse a few years ago. After injuring my back a few times, I had to give up the bakery. However, I never gave up my love of herbs and teas. One of my employees, Kaitlin, was a college student and I became her “Indiana Mom.” Kaitlin has as much love of teas and herbs as I have. When I decided to continue to blend herbal remedies and start selling again, I needed a new name. So, I combined our names; Kaitlin (I also called her Kat) and my name Susie to become KatSu Herbs & Teas.
When naming KatSu Tea and designing a logo, I incorporated the “cats” into the logo because I also bred and showed cats for about 15 years a few years back. I was able to combine my love of cats and teas into the logo. The bonus, when Lindsey designed my logo I notice the “t” looked like a cross in the middle of the logo. As a Christian, I believe that is my reminder to keep Christ in the middle of my business.
I have loved teas for the majority of my life. I was first introduced to full leaf teas by my son when he was about 4 years old. He spent the day with one of my best friends and she made him a cuppa tea with a tea ball. From that time forward, tea was only served in our house made with full leaf teas. I always had a cupboard full of teas and herbs.

I have tried to live my life on the healthy side. I was in the medical field for many years and saw the affects for medicines. I stay away from traditional medicines when I can. There is a time and place for traditional medicine; however, for me it is not my first line of defense. Modern medicine focuses on treating the symptoms. I became a certified Herbalist, learning about materia medica in Western, Chinese, Ayurveda herbs. Meaning, we do not treat disease, but the person who has the disease.
I am also an Advanced Indiana Master Naturalist (AIMN). Learning about the Hoosier natural resources and all the nature that is around us. I no longer use chemicals in my yard and my yard is certified as Native. All the herbs I grow or purchase for my blends are organic. I do not want to pass on to you anything that has harming chemicals.
I hope you enjoy our blends. All the teas are blended in a certified kitchen.
